Northampton casino finally reopens today after false hope two weeks ago

The Regent Street casino is opening its’ doors on Saturday.

Casinos across the UK will reopen this weekend after the government paused reopening earlier this month.

Adult gaming and entertainment is returning to Northampton as Grosvenor Casino today announces it is preparing to reopen 36 of its venues from Saturday, August 15.

It comes the casino along with ice rinks and bowling alleys were gearing up to open for August 1 before Boris Johnson squeezed the brakes as COVID-19 cases started to rise.

Jonathon Swaine, managing director at Grosvenor Casinos, said: “We’re delighted with today’s decision and we are ready to reopen our casinos in England in line with Government guidance having already proved we have not only complied with, but exceeded the hygiene and safety standards set by Public Health England.

“I’d like to thank our colleagues for their support and patience, and I would also like to welcome our broader work force back to work. While it has been a hugely challenging time for the industry, the health and safety of our customers and team has always been our top priority.

“We’ve been ready to reopen safely for a number of weeks and we are delighted we can now finally welcome back our customers to enjoy our casinos safely once more.”

Upon entering the casino, customers will be expected to use hand sanitiser which will be readily available at dispensers, whilst enhanced cleaning will take place throughout each day, including tables, chips and machines.

To create a fun experience in the safest way possible, each casino will make screens available at all its gaming tables and in between electronic machines. There will also be restrictions on the number of people who can play games at any one time.

The entertainment venue will accept cash and is encouraging customers to use contactless payment where possible. There will be safety shields at all tills to protect both team members and customers, and face masks will be offered as an option to wear.

Guests will still be able to enjoy food and drink with dining seating appropriately spaced out and can be pre-ordered at their table or from their machine, either using the online app, or by placing an order with the valet service using the disposable one-use table menus.
