A man in his 70s who was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision on the M1 last week has died in hospital, Northamptonshire Police has confirmed this afternoon, (Tuesday, March 28). The collision happened in the southbound carriageway near junction 15 at Northampton on Wednesday, March 22.
At around 4.25pm, a blue and white Mercedes car transporter collided with the rear of a red BMW car as traffic slowed. The BMW then collided with the rear of a white Sprinter van.
The elderly passenger in the BMW sustained serious injuries and was taken to University of Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital. Police confirmed in a statement that the man died of his injuries in hospital today.

Residents have since left tributes to the unnamed man on Facebook. One person called it “a sad and tragic incident”.
Officers are continuing to investigate the collision. They would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the collision or events which led to it.
